A 22-year-old Kitchener man was arrested for impaired driving by police in Guelph after he called them to report he was being followed by a vehicle investigators allege wasn't really there.

The man called the service's downtown police station to complain that he was being chased by another car at about 3:30 a.m. on Tuesday, investigators say.

Since the man was close to the city's core, police instructed him to come to the Guelph Police station on Wyndham Street South in downtown Guelph, where officers were standing by to help the man.

Once he arrived, officers say they spoke to the man and suspected he was impaired by drugs and not actually being followed.

Police arrested and charged him with impaired driving.

He will appear in Guelph court on July 30, 2013.
