Five Ontario women aged 18 to 61 will try to make history starting Tuesday by relay swimming the length of Lake Ontario over five days for charity.

The women will begin at 10 a.m. in Kingston and plan to finish 305 kilometres later on Saturday afternoon at Burlington's Spencer Smith Park.

They hope to raise $300,000 for Plan International's 'Because I am a girl' campaign.

Samantha Whiteside, 23 of New Hamburg, along with Colleen Shields, 61, Nicole Mallette, 48, and Rebekah Boscariol, 18, have all completed a solo swim across Lake Ontario.

They each swam the 52-kilometre stretch from Niagara-on-the-Lake to Toronto.

Mona Shariri, 18, the fifth and youngest member of the team by a few months, swam the English Channel last year.

A trip across the length of Lake Ontario by a relay has never been completed.
