A man who was found dead near the railway tracks in Guelph on Thursday was not struck by a train, but likely fell off a GO train, according to police.
The 33-year-old man's body was found next to the tracks between Alma St. and Silvercreek Parkway around 6:30 p.m. on Jan.15 and a post-mortem was conducted at Hamilton General the next day.
Police now say that the man may have either jumped on to a GO train as it was stopped at the Guelph station, or just as it was pulling away, and hid between the cars to avoid detection.
The man slipped, either while trying to stay on the train or when he tried to jump off, but it was his fall from the train that led to his death.
Police say the man's next of kin have been notified.
