Icy roads and sidewalks have led to a delay in curbside household waste pickup for some Waterloo Region neighbourhoods due to slippery and unsafe conditions.

The Region of Waterloo announced the delays Friday, saying crews in Kitchener, Cambridge and Waterloo "will attempt to safely collect as much as possible in the Friday collection areas."

"However, it is expected that some streets will remain uncollected," the region said in a release. "Residents are asked to please leave items at the curb for collection on Saturday."

According to the region, trucks will return to finish their Friday pickup on Saturday.

Friday collection in North DumfriesWilmot and Wellesley townships is not affected.

The icy buildup on the roads is due melting snow caused by overnight showers Thursday. Environment Canada predicts mostly cloudy skies Saturday for Waterloo Region with a daytime high of 1C
