Hasnain Ali Manji charged with attempted murder in Cambridge parking lot shooting
WRPS search for black Mercedes, more charges expected
Kitchener resident Hasnain Ali Manji, 33, was arrested Sunday after what police are calling a targeted shooting at a Cambridge parking lot early Saturday.
Police say a 25-year-old man from Brampton is in stable condition after undergoing surgery over the weekend.
He was shot multiple times while sitting in his vehicle in the Fountain Street Carpool lot shortly after 4 a.m. Saturday. A woman who was also in the car was not harmed.
"Excellent, tenacious and quick work by all involved in this investigation", said police chief Bryan Larkin. "These types of incidents cause trepidation within our community. Through hard work and a team effort by several branches with the organization, we have restored a sense of calm."
Waterloo Region police say they believe the shooting was targeted, but they are still looking for a black Mercedes, believed to be connected with the incident. It's described as:
- Four-door black 1997 Mercedes E32
- Ontario licence plate BSPL580
- Believed to have damage to the front passenger side
Police are asking the public not to approach the vehicle, but to call 911 if spotted.
Hasnain Ali Manji appeared in court Sunday and was charged with two counts of attempted murder, weapons dangerous and unauthorized possession of a firearm.
- An earlier version of this story indicated Hasnain Ali Manji was 26. Police later corrected that information. Hasnain Ali Manji is, in fact, 33.Jan 18, 2016 11:36 AM ET
