Hammer attack suspect's remains found in Wellesley barn
Waterloo Regional Police Service have found the remains of Michael Fortune, who was accused of a violent assault on two women in December 2012, in a barn on Weimar Line in the Township of Wellesley.
Fortune had been missing since December 3, 2012.
Police were contacted by the owner of the rural property shortly after 5 p.m. on Sunday.
The property had been sold in January 2013 and the new owner found the remains while cleaning out the barn.
Foul play is not suspected, police said.
Police had been looking for Fortune ever since they allege he assaulted two women with a hammer at home in Kitchener last December.
"He ran from the house and a search ensued that night... the search was called when we brought in a helicopter and [scanned] the area looking for heat sources," said Insp. Kevin Thaler with the Waterloo Regional Police Service. "We've been looking for him since but Sunday the discovery was made by a citizen."
