Guelph toddler mauled by Great Dane

A two-year-old has suffered injuries to the right ear, upper left arm and puncture wounds to the upper back and stomach, according to police after an attack by a Great Dane while walking the dog with a relative on Thursday.

Attack took place on Vanier Drive while toddler was with relative walking the dog

Guelph Police say a toddler is recovering from multiple wounds after being mauled by a Great Dane. 

The attack happened Thursday along Vanier Drive while the dog was being walked by a relative of the child, police said. 

Police say the attack left the child with injuries to the right ear, upper left arm and puncture wounds on the upper back and stomach. 

The toddler was first taken to Guelph General Hospital before being taken to hospital in Hamilton for further treatment. 

The owners of the dog were at work at the time of the attack. 

Police say the dog was removed from the scene by the Humane Society.
