The procession and funeral service for Guelph police Const. Jennifer Kovach cost $163,000 in total, almost half of which was not budgeted.

Kovach died in the line of duty just after midnight on Mar. 14 after she lost control of her cruiser on Imperial Road South near Paisley Road while responding to another officer's call for assistance. Her cruiser crossed the median line and collided with a transit bus.

She was later pronounced dead in hospital.

A public funeral and police procession was held a week later in downtown Guelph and was attended by thousands of well-wishers.

Guelph police said in a Wednesday release that those services had a "net budget impact" of $77,000. Those funds are expected to come from the budgets of Guelph police and the city of Guelph.
