Police in Guelph say a Mississauga woman was clocked going almost double the speed limit near a residential area of the city on Thursday morning.

An officer recorded the woman's speed at 99 km/hr in a 50 zone on Watson Parkway North.

Police set up a speed trap on the thoroughfare after people who lived nearby recently complained about drivers going too fast in the area.

The 40-year-old woman was stopped just after 9:00 a.m. and was issued a fine of $359 and four demerit points.

Police say if the driver had been going one kilometre faster, officers would have impounded her vehicle for seven days and the woman's license would have been seized.
