Freezing rain is on the way for Waterloo region and Wellington County, Environment Canada said in a special weather statement, and is expected to begin overnight Saturday into Sunday.

It will last several hours before turning to rain by Sunday morning.

A low pressure system over New Mexico will make it to the Great Lakes Saturday night and into Sunday, causing precipitation across the region.

Environment Canada said the amount of ice should be light, but freezing rain warnings may be issued when it approaches the region.
