1. Food Revolution Day at Kitchener Market
10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
This free event is all about eating health and eating local. Foodlink will be launching their 2013 Buy Local! Buy Fresh! Map at the market, and there are lots of activities for families, including everything from a Farm in Box to Dance Dance Revolution, to presentations on active living.
2. Fireworks in Conestogo Park
Park opens at 6:00 p.m., fireworks at around 8:45 p.m.
It’s not really summer until the fireworks go off on Victoria Day weekend. Get your first fireworks fix at Conestogo Park Saturday night in a show put on by the Conestogo Winterbourne Optimists. The park opens at six for the show, but the fireworks don’t pop until sunset. Bring the family, the lawn chairs and some bug spray. 19 Evening Star Lane, Conestogo, ON.@CWOptimists
3. The KW Kennel Club Show
Saturday and Sunday, 9:00 – 5:00 p.m., Monday 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
My colleague Jackie Sharkey has a fierce love of corgis, and dogs in general for that matter, so I made sure to let her know the kennel club show is on at the Aud this weekend. Agility trials, basically dog obstacle courses, are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday at the Centennial Stadium Field and tickets are inexpensive to boot.
4. Parade and Fireworks- New Dundee
Monday, 7:00 a.m. – Dusk
Because you want more than one evening of fireworks this weekend, don’t you? I do! Plus, there’s a parade. The day kicks off with garage sales and then a firefighters’ breakfast. Mmmm, pancakes will hit the spot after you’ve scored some bargains. The fun doesn’t stop there – there’s a craft sale in the park, and food booths. At 2 p.m. there’s a parade through town, and at dusk, fireworks.
5. Kitchener Musical Society Victoria Day Concert
Monday, 12:00 p.m.- 1:00 p.m.
Outdoor concerts are one of the best parts of summer, a chance to relax on the grass and enjoy the tunes floating on the breeze. Get your first concert fix at Victoria Park with a free concert by the Kitchener Musical Society’s 60-piece ensemble on Roos Island at the Gazebo.
Bring your own chair or blanket.
