Canadian Tire has announced it has selected the BlackBerry 10 as the smartphone which will be issued to its corporate team across Canada.

Starting at the end of April, employees from Canadian Tire and its family of companies, which include Mark’s and Sport Chek, will use a mix of BlackBerry Z10 and Q10 phones.

"With 90 years of history serving Canadians in communities from coast-to-coast, it’s fitting that we’re partnering with another great Canadian company to support our business," said Eugene Roman, the chief technology officer of Canadian Tire.

BlackBerry is expected to create a shared platform for the company that will "increase efficiencies and drive innovation."

"We are thrilled to work with Canadian Tire to bring innovations to its employees and customers across the country," said Andrew MacLeod, BlackBerry’s managing director for Canada.

This announcement follows one made by Canadian Tire in March that it became the first retail partner with Communitech by opening a new digital development lab at the Tannery building in Kitchener.
