A 39-year-old Cambridge woman is being heralded as a hero after a near-drowning near Huntsville.

The woman, who works as a nurse, was a guest of the Deerhurst resort when she noticed two swimmers in trouble in Peninsula Lake.

She and her daughter swam out to the rescue the pair of swimmers, a brother and sister, with a lifejacket.

The women swam ashore to safety, while the 22-year-old Mississauga man held onto a buoy until a rescue boat arrived.

The man was taken to hospital and kept for observation.
