1. Cheering on CBC Kitchener-Waterloo at the Elmira Maple Syrup Festival

7:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m., Saturday, April 5


The Elmira Maple Syrup Festival is celebrating its 50th anniversary this weekend. Join in the world’s largest one-day maple syrup fest and eat to your heart’s content. But, don’t forget, the CBC K-W team will be competing in the pancake flipping competition starting at 10:30 a.m., so come out to cheer us on. Plus: an antiques show, birds of prey exhibit, vendors, live music, sugar bush tours, log-sawing, food trucks, cooking demonstrations, quilt sales, pony rides and a mobile sugar shack. Get a good night’s sleep on Friday, you’ll need it to enjoy all the festival has to offer.

2. International Pillow Fight Day

3:00 - 4:00 p.m., Saturday, April 5

Uptown Square, Waterloo

Get ready to throw down at a huge outdoor pillow fight at Uptown Waterloo Square. Waterloo joins communities around the world, from Aberystwyth to Zürich, who will be taking up pillows and swatting friends, neighbours, family, and strangers. Feather-free pillows only, by the way.

3. Coffee Tasting & Appreciation with Matter of Taste at KWAG

12:00 – 1:30 p.m., Saturday. April 5

K-W Art Gallery, 101 Queen St. N., Kitchener

If you want to learn about coffee, why not learn from the best? Dawn and Phong Tran, the owners of Kitchener coffee shop Matter of Taste, will be hosting a workshop on coffee, covering everything from growing the plant to roasting the beans to making the perfect cup of joe. Plus, you get some coffee (in sample-size bags) to take home.

4. International Tabletop Day

1:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m., Saturday, April 5

50 Kent Ave, Kitchener

You can play board games or card games and raise money for charity all in one fell swoop on Saturday afternoon. Tri-Cities Tabletop is a new group holding their first board games event this weekend, and they’re looking for people to play with. There will also be silent auction featuring, obviously, board games! A reminder that this event is 18+.

5. Kitchener Blues Festival Launch Party Fundraiser

Doors 7:00 p.m., show 8:00p.m., Friday, April 4

The Walper Hotel, 1 King St W., Kitchener

If you can’t wait until summer for your blues fix, check out the launch party and fundraiser on Friday. There will be performances by the Jack de Keyzer band,Jon Knight and Matt Weidinger and lots of good eats too.
