Alcohol, seatbelts factors in fatal head-on collision in Kitchener
A 31-year-old Stoney Creek, Ont. man is dead after the BMW SUV in which he was a backseat passenger collided head-on with a United Cab taxi on Manitou Drive in Kitchener at 3:00 am on Sunday.
The 21-year-old driver of the BMW is facing charges of impaired driving cause death, over 80 mg blood alcohol content and dangerous driving causing death.
Waterloo Regional Police said the victim, Ryan Bandurka, was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision and succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Police said all other individuals in the collision suffered only minor injuries.
"Alcohol, speed and failure to wear seatbelts were factors in the collision," police said in a news release.
The 21-year-old who was charged will appear in court on July 11.
