Police confirmed Tuesday a body pulled from Lake Ontario is that of missing Whitby, Ont., teacher Jeffrey Boucher.
Boucher, 52, went missing on Jan. 13 while out for a run and became the subject of a massive manhunt that saw hundreds of police officers and volunteers search the area near his home.
After recovering the body on the weekend, Durham Regional Police said it was likely Boucher was running along Whitby’s pier area and fell into the water. Police said a current could have dragged his body to where it was eventually discovered.
Additional lab tests, which police said could take weeks, may clarify the actual cause of the death. There were no signs of trauma to the body, police said Tuesday, and no foul play is suspected.
There’s also no evidence to suggest Boucher’s death was a suicide, police said.
Boucher taught at Bowmanville High School and had a wife, Kristen, and two daughters.
During the search, Kristen Boucher said there was “zero per cent chance” her husband ran away or committed suicide.
