Weather is helping highway clean-up efforts in the Slocan Valley.

Highway 6 has been closed since Thursday. That's when the first of two major mudslides blocked off the highway and cut power and phone service.

Power was restored last night.

Now road-clearing crews are starting to deal with the massive blockage.

Cindi Trowbridge is with the Highways ministry in the Kootenays. Trowbridge says the safety of the south side will determine when even one lane can be reopened. She says engineers are assessing the slide area every few hours, but they're not predicting yet when it will be clear.
