Premier Ralph Klein has called the Edmonton Highland's byelection for June 12. Highlands has been without a MLA since February when former New Democrat Leader Pam Barrett quit politics after suffering what she described as a near-death experience.
The ND's are calling the byelection a referendum on Bill 11, saying it will give voters a chance to show the government how they feel about it's healthcare legislation.
There are four candidates running for the seat. City councillor Brian Mason will run for the New Democrats, businessman and former Liberal MLA Terry Kirkland is running for the Liberals.
Barbara Fung, a banking manager is running for the Tories. Leader of the Alberta First Party, John Riel is running for his new party.
