The Great One surprised the hosts of Hockey Night In Canada Radio on Monday by calling in to talk about the 2013 playoffs, the Oilers, Ovechkin, Crosby, the Olympics and more.

The NHL's all-time leading scorer called in to join Elliotte Freidman and Rob Pizzo on Hockey Night In Canada Radio. He had a 15-minute conversation that gave Gretzky the chance to offer his insight into what it takes to win the Stanley Cup.

Gretzky also talked about his choice for the Most Valuable Player Award for the 2012-2013 season. He likes Washington Capitals forward Alexander Ovechkin. Gretzky won the trophy a record nine times.

He also weighed in on the fortunes of the team where he found his greatest success. Gretzky analyzed the young, talented Oilers and offered a suggestion on what the team might need to become Stanley Cup contenders instead of draft lottery regulars.
