Mohawk Road is closed between Rice Avenue and Buckingham Drive Tuesday after a pedestrian was struck by a car.

Witnesses say the pedestrian was “thrown several feet” after being struck, according to Carmen D'Angelo, duty commander for Hamilton Paramedic Service.

The man, believed to be in his 80s, was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries to his brain, D'Angelo said.

Police did not release any information on the model or the make of the car.

The incident took place shortly after 11:30 a.m. There is no timeline on when the roads would be reopened as of Tuesday afternoon, Hamilton police spokesperson Const. Debbie McGreal-Dinning said.
