Police charge driver after tow truck struck and killed senior at crosswalk

Hamilton police have charged a 40-year-old tow truck driver with careless driving after he hit a 70-year-old woman at a crosswalk in Dundas last month.

Hamilton police have charged a 40-year-old tow truck driver with careless driving after he hit a 70-year-old woman in a crosswalk in Dundas last month.

Less than two weeks later the woman died in hospital.

The senior was walking across an intersection in downtown Dundas on Feb. 6 shortly after 10:30 a.m.

She used the crosswalk at Sydenham Street and King Street. Police say at the same time, the tow truck driver was turning from King onto Sydenham traveling northbound.

The woman went to hospital with serious head injuries. She died on Feb. 15. 

Police said the man is expected in provincial court on April 23.
