World Cup final brings hundreds to Pier 8
Germany defeats Argentina 1-0 after extra time
Hundreds of jersey-clad Hamiltonians watched the World Cup final game between Germany and Argentina at Pier 8 on Sunday.
In the end, Germany would claim victory over Argentina, by a score of 1-0.
The game was shown on a jumbo LED screen.
Up to 1,000 people showed up to the viewing party, and many of them were from the city's diverse Hispanic community, according to event organizer Greg Maychak, the city's manager of Pan Am Initiatives.
Spectators filled the field all the way to the stage. "They keep getting closer," Maychak said.
With Mario Götze's goal in the 112th minute, Germany won the World Cup — its fourth cup title and first in 24 years.
