The Ministry of Labour has sent multiple investigators to a Flamborough quarry where a maintenance employee working on contract was killed Wednesday.
Carmeuse Lime & Stone spokesperson Kathy Wiley confirmed the body of the contract employee was found near one of their kilns inside the facility, although it remains unclear why the worker was there.
The Ontario MOL has sent multiple investigators to the scene where, who were dispatched 30 minute after the initial call was made to emergency services at roughly 2 p.m. Wednesday.
Carmeuse released a brief statement in the afternoon, but declined to provide details of the deceased.
"The tragic incident has been reported to the appropriate authorities and Carmeuse will cooperate fully in any investigation. We at Carmeuse Lime & Stone are greatly saddened by the death and extend our heartfelt prayers and thoughts to the family and loved ones of the deceased."
Hamilton Paramedic Services commander Ian Wright said paramedics responded to a call that a man had fallen and was without vital signs at the quarry, shortly before 2 p.m. Wednesday.
An air ambulance was dispatched, but later called off. Forty-five minutes after the initial call, paramedics were still on scene.
