Braving temperatures that felt as cold as –18 C with the wind chill, residents of downtown Hamilton’s Beasley neighbourhood showed winter what they’re made of.
More than 150 children, parents and volunteers frolicked at Beasley Park on Saturday during the Beasley Neighbourhood Association’s (BNA) annual Winter Carnival.
The event boasted ball hockey games, a makeshift tobogganing hill, an ill-fated attempt to construct a homemade snow-making machine, and of course, warm snacks and drinks to help everybody conquer the cold.
Saturday’s festivities also saw scores of neighbourhood kids — more than a few of whom are newcomers to Canada — don ice skates for the first time, learning to glide on the temporary outdoor rink community members construct each year.
