Veteran broadcaster John McFadyen passed away Sunday at Hamilton's Juravinski Hospital at the age of 73.

McFadyen was a broadcaster for more than 30 years. The native of Falkirk, Scotland, moved to Canada in 1951 and spent part of his early career at CKPC Brantford before moving to CKFM Toronto, where he served as news director through the early 1980s.

Later, McFadyen became news director at sister station CFRB.

He also had news management roles at the CKO News network, CKWS-TV Kingston and CHCH-TV Hamilton.

Upon retirement he returned to his passion, the stage, acting with a number of theatre groups.

McFadyen is survived by his wife, Audrey, two daughters and a grandchild.

A celebration of McFadyen's life will be held on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Chedoke Presbyterian Church in Hamilton.
