Two Dundas women were sent to hospital after a man wielding a hammer attacked them in their apartment late Sunday morning.

Hamilton Police were called to a building on Dundas Street before noon. The victims told police a man forced his way into their apartment and hit them both several times with a hammer, police said, before he left the building.

Then, when officers were in the apartment investigating, the man came back with a new hammer he purchased after he left the first time. The 21-year-old accused, who is known to the victims but not related, was arrested and charged with assault and forcible entry.

The 49-year-old and 19-year-old victims went to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The two are family members, but Hamilton Police spokesperson Debbie McGreal would not say how they are related so they wouldn't be identified.
