Dance in the Park

A three-day festival of dance outdoors, Dusk Dances, began Thursday in Bayfront Park. It’s the first year the 20-year-old festival, popular in Toronto, Ottawa and elsewhere, comes to Hamilton, presented by HCA Dance Theatre.

See Art Affordably

Visitors to the Art Gallery of Hamilton may pay what they wish for admission Tuesday through Friday during the month of August. And Friday is also the gallery’s monthly free admission night. For more information, visit the Art Gallery of Hamilton’s website

Crank Out a Batch of Ice Cream

Costumed interpreters at Westfield Heritage Village will be hand-churning ice cream Sunday and Monday and visitors can lend a hand with the making – and, of course, the tasting. For more information, visit the event website

Time: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Aug. 3 and Aug. 4

Location: Westfield Heritage Village – 1049 Kirkwall Road (formerly Regional Road 552), off Highway 8 in Rockton

Cost: Adults $11, seniors (65+) $10 and children 6-12 $6.50.  Children five and under are free.

Test-Drive a Violin and Watch the Lego Movie

It’s Kids’ Day this Sunday at Seven Sundays in Gage Park. The Spleit Strings Orchestra performs at 6:30, and kids can stop by their tent to try out violins. At 7:45, Hamilton indie alt-folk band The Human Orchestra performs. As usual, food trucks will be on site.

A screening of The Lego Movie on an outdoor screen will begin “as soon as it is dark enough, usually 9p.m., weather permitting.”
