Two Hamilton men were arrested for breaking into a Hamilton daycare and stealing markers, makeup and thermometers, police say.

Around 1:30 a.m. Sunday an alarm alerted police to a break in at a daycare in the area of Sanatorium Road and Scenic Drive by Chedoke Park.

While setting up a perimeter around the daycare, officers saw two people running out the back doors of the building, police say.

Police arrested both men and found they were in possession of markers, makeup and thermometers from the daycare. They had also drawn on the walls of the centre, police say.

"It sounds like the work of two bored individuals," said police Const. Debbie McGreal-Dinning.

Two 18-year-old Hamilton men were charged with breaking and entering, theft, possession of stolen goods under $5,000 and mischief.

They were held for a bail hearing.
