Thieves break in to Mountain homes while residents sleep
Police warning people to be vigilant
Hamilton police are warning the public to be careful after thieves broke into a number of homes while residents were upstairs asleep in the Scenic Woods area last week.
It happened on Thursday and Friday starting around 11:30 p.m. and went on through the night, police say. Two homes on Daffodil Crescent and one on Bluebell Crescent were broken into using a tool to pry open the garage door.
Once inside, suspects stole car keys, liquor, cell phones and purses. At one home, the suspects stole the family’s car from the driveway, police say.
The crime spree was eventually stymied when a home alarm system went off during one of the break-ins and scared the thieves off.
Police say they’re still investigating, but believe the break-ins are connected. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 905-546-8927.
Hamilton police offer these tips to keep your home safe:
- Protect yourself by ensuring all windows and doors are locked, even when you are outside in your yard or inside your home. This includes the interior garage door to your home.
- Remove the garage door opener from your car overnight.
- If you observe any suspicious activity, please call 911.
