Hamilton Police charged 10 drivers this Canada Day weekend with impaired driving.

The charges were laid as part of the holiday traffic safety program. Sgt. Claus Wagner, spokesperson for Hamilton Police, said the focus of the blitz was impaired driving.

The incidents were not concentrated to one area, but were mostly in the east end, from Sanford Avenue North to Highway 8 and Fifty Road in Winona.

In seven of the 10 charges, officers found drivers with as much as three times the legal limit. Two drivers who were charged refused to take a breathalyzer test and one was charged with being impaired with drugs.

The four-day blitz also saw officers hand out 365 provincial notices for speeding.
