TB case found at Columbia College
An employee at a company working out of Columbia College was diagnoised with tuberculosis. Hamilton Public Health said there is no risk to people who work or attend the school.
The employee worked with Sodexo, the company that manages the kitchens and food service inside Columbia College. A release from Public Health said the employee is currently undergoing treatment.
Dr. Hamidah Meghani, associate medical officer of health for Hamilton Public Health, said the city gets 20 to 25 cases of TB a year.
Tuberculosis is a lung infection that can be spread through close contact with the sick person over an extended period of time.
Meghani said in the release public health will investigate individuals who have come into close contact with the employee to find out if any one else has been infected.
