A severe thunderstorm watch for Hamilton issued by Environment Canada has ended.

In a statement posted to its website on Wednesday morning, the service said there was the potential for "severe thunderstorms with large hail, damaging winds or heavy rainfall" on Wednesday afternoon and evening.

Wind gusts up to 90 km/h and rainfall up to 50mm per hour were possible, the statement said.

The weather watch covered an area spanning much of southern Ontario, and includes Toronto. The provincial capital is still cleaning up after it received 126mm of rain in two hours on Monday, causing flooding and power outages in some parts of the city.
