Hamilton is under a severe thunderstorm watch, and Environment Canada warns that rainfall amounts of 50 mm in an hour could be on the way.

“Conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing damaging wind gusts, large hail and torrential rain,” Environment Canada said in a statement.

A cold front is approaching the city from the west, with thunderstorms ahead of the front that are expected to track through the region this afternoon and evening. “These storms will have the potential to give local rainfall amounts of 50 mm in an hour, as well as very strong winds gusts and hail,” Environment Canada said.
