A 70-year-old Hamilton man has been arrested for sexually assaulting a young girl in a Stoney Creek park, police say.

On Oct. 2, police were called about an alleged sexual assault of a girl. Police would not disclose her age other than to say she is a child.

The incident was forwarded to the police child abuse branch for further investigation. Police say the man repeatedly sexually assaulted the girl between July 1 and Aug. 31, 2012.

The alleged assaults took place in Ferris Park on Lynwood drive in Stoney Creek. Police say the man and the girl are not related.

The man was arrested on Oct. 16 and is being held for a bail hearing. He has been charged with three counts of sexual assault and three counts of sexual interference.

Police say the man is believed to frequent other parks in the area and there may be other victims.
