Coun. Russ Powers of Dundas appeared on Here and Now on Wednesday to discuss the Association of Municipalities of Ontario’s online boot camp for rookie political candidates.

Powers is president of AMO and has been at various levels of government for 30 years.

Here are some examples of advice from the course and from Powers himself.

  • "Don't take things personally. There will be difficult and confrontational times, the most important is if you are comfortable in your opinion and position."
  • "It's okay to change your mind. If you are going to.. be sure to clearly enunciate why."
  • "If you're a single issue person, you may want to think again aboutrunning for office."
