1 dead, 1 injured after QEW wrong-way driver hits oncoming car

One man is dead and another suffered non-life-threatening injuries after a two-vehicle collision on the QEW near Stoney Creek, Ontario Provincial Police say.

One man is dead after a two-vehicle collision on the QEW near Stoney Creek, Ontario Provincial Police say. 

A driver going the wrong way on the highway collided front-on with another vehicle at about 4:40 a.m. Sunday.

One of the drivers died at the scene, while the other suffered minor injuries. 

OPP did not say which driver was going the wrong way. 

The QEW was reopened between Fruitland and Fifty roads at about 11 a.m. Sunday after being closed for six hours.

Ben Roth with Hamilton EMS said crews transported a man in his 20s from the scene with non-life-threatening injures.

The other person involved in the crash was pronounced dead at the scene.

There was a fire involved in the collision.

OPP said the person who died was male. They said Sunday afternoon they would not release his name until he could be positively identified and his family could be notified. 

The OPP's investigation is continuing. No charges have been laid, according to an OPP release. Police used a drone to assist in the investigation.
