Hamilton police are searching for a man they say might have information on how a 21-year-old man was shot in a Hess Street apartment building earlier this month.

Officers have looked over video surveillance tapes from the lobby at 95 Hess St. S to find anyone who was awake when Wor Yahana Wur killed in the early hours of Sept. 13.

Hamilton police haven’t been able to identify one man on the tape and are asking for the public’s help to track him down.

About a dozen police cruisers were called to 95 Hess St. S just after 4 a.m. that day.

Two men in their 20s were taken to Hamilton General Hospital. Wur had gunshot wounds, and died in hospital later that day.

The second man had minor injuries — it's not clear if he also sustained gunshot wounds. He was later released and taken into police custody.

Jim Addley, a resident of the building, said he heard a bang in the early morning, but figured somebody had lit off a firecracker in the one of the hallways.

He said he hears screaming and fights in hallways on a regular basis, and has become accustomed to hearing loud noises in the middle of the night.

"I mind my own business. It's nothing new around here."

Hamilton police's homicide unit is investigating. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 905-546-4123 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
