Hamilton police are searching for a suspect who allegedly brandished a two-foot machete while robbing a variety store.

On August 27 just before 9 p.m., police say a man entered the store near Main Street East and Sherman Avenue with the 24–inch knife and demanded money from the clerk.

After taking the cash, the suspect allegedly fled the store north on Sherman.

The police K–9 unit was brought in, but the dogs couldn't find the man.

While searching the area, though, officers did spot a man coming out of an apartment building near King Street East and Proctor Boulevard who fit the description of the machete-wielding robbery suspect.

The man was carrying a small bag of marijuana, and was also in possession of crack-cocaine, pills and over $1000 in cash, according to police.

He was arrested on drug charges.
