Closed for more than two hours, southbound lanes reopen before noon

A police officer was sent to hospital after a vehicle struck a cruiser on the Red Hill Valley Parkway on Saturday morning.

The collision occurred at around 9 a.m. in one of the parkway's southbound lanes near the King Street exit, said Phil Fleming, a staff sergeant with the Hamilton Police Service.

Fleming said the officer involved was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The other driver had minor injuries and was not taken to hospital.

Fleming wouldn't give out a description of the officer or the other driver involved in the crash.

The southbound lanes of the parkway were closed from Queenston to Greenhill for the cleanup well into late morning, but reopened at around 11:45 a.m.

Fleming said the collision does not appear to be suspicious.
