Hamilton police arrested a 33-year-old Burlington man after a juicer and a high-end fan were stolen from a department store at Lime Ridge Mall.

Around 8 p.m. on Thursday, a loss-prevention officer working at the store spotted a man heading for the door with the items and approached him. Asked to see whether he had paid, the suspect ran out of the store, and then the employee ran after him.

Fan and juicer in hand, the suspect, police say, attempted to enter a cab to make his escape. The employee stopped the cab, and the suspect fled on foot. He dropped the loot, but police say only the fan was recovered.

Police later found him running near the intersection of Upper Sherman Avenue and Mohawk Road. He was discovered, police say, carrying hydromorphone pills and several needles.

An Aldershot man, who has been released on bail, faces charges of theft and possession under $5,000, possession of a controlled substance, and two counts of breach of probation.
