Police investigate string of auto shop break-and-enters

Police were one step behind the suspects as they hit a series of auto shops.

Hamilton police were just one step behind break and enter suspects that hit a series of auto shops early Tuesday morning.

The first theft took place at an auto shop on Rymal Rd. E and Upper Ottawa St. around 2:30 a.m. An employee went outside to find his truck had been broken into, so he alerted police.

A second call came in for a break and enter at an auto shop down the street. The back door was smashed and the shop ransacked, police said.

While police were investigating the scene of the second break-in, a third call came in when an alarm went off after a break and enter at an auto shop closer to Dartnell Rd.

When police arrived, they found the building had been broken into. There was a vehicle parked and running in front of the building, but the suspects had fled the scene.

The Break and Enter, Auto Theft and Robbery (BEAR) unit of the Hamilton Police is continuing to investigate.
