A mother saved her 24-year-old son from a baseball bat beating on the Mountain early Thursday.

The incident took place around 4:30 a.m., at a home in the area of Rymal Road East and Upper Gage Avenue.

A man showed up at the home armed with a baseball bat and struck the man who lived there when he walked outside, police say.

The victim fell to the ground and the assailant started to kick him — until the victim's mother intervened, police say. The mother and son then went inside the house to wait for police.

The 24-year-old victim was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries

A 20-year-old Hamilton man was arrested and charged with assault causing bodily harm, assault with a weapon, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

His bail was opposed.
