Smye, a second-year photography student at Mohawk College, captured the shot during this year's air show in June.

The shot was taken with a Canon Rebel on a tripod with a slow shutter speed, Smye explained.

“I just followed the plane and shot it,” he told CBC Hamilton after learning the news.

The photography enthusiast' subjects range from animals and waterfall to car shows and models. You can check out some of his work here.

Smye added that he hopes to start his own photography business after graduation.

“The way you take pictures, it's relaxing, and it's like an experience that people don't the chance to do,” Smye said.

The winner gets a CBC T-shirt and a mug. Congratulations, Spencer!
