The provincial Ministry of Labour has been called in to investigate after a man died at Taylor Steel in Stoney Creek.

Around 1 p.m., fire officials responded to a call about an "industrial accident" at the steel manufacturing facility, located on Arvin Avenue near Dewitt Road on Stoney Creek, said Claudio Mostacci, a spokesperson for the Hamilton Fire Department.

Crews attempted a high-angle rescue to retrieve the man, who was on a crane approximately 30 to 35 feet off the ground. Mostical said he didn't know the exact nature of the accident, nor the chain of events that led up to it.

Paramedics tried to resuscitate the victim, but the effort was called of "after consultation with an emergency physician," said Carmen D'Angelo, a manager with the Hamilton Paramedic Service.

The coroner has been called in to determine a cause of death, he said.
