Man injured in Glanbrook barn fire

Hamilton firefighters are working on Wednesday morning to contain a fire at a barn in Glanbrook.

A man was injured in a barn fire in Glanbrook on Wednesday morning.

Firefighters rushed to 2330 Fletcher Road just after 10 a.m. to put out a fire at a 5,000 square-foot barn.

“Crews arrived on scene. They found that the roof had partially collapsed,” said Hamilton Fire Department spokesman Claudio Mostacci.

EMS officials treated an man who had tried to save a vehicle from the barn, Mostacci said.

Luke Hewitt, of the Hamilton Paramedic Service, said the "elderly" man suffered burns in the fire and was sent to hospital.

By 11 a.m., firefighters had gone “into defensive mode” and the flames weren’t threatening to spread to other buildings, said Mostacci.

It had been reported earlier that the man was injured trying to save sheep from the building.

However, further investigation revealed that there were no animals in the barn at the time of the fire.

Mostacci said no estimate on the cost of the damage was available early on Wednesday afternoon.

  • Firefighters had suggested that the man had tried to save sheep from the burning barn. In fact, no animals were in the building, officials later determined.
