A Hamilton man narrowly escaped disaster Wednesday when the car he was driving moments earlier burst into flames.

It happened around 11 p.m., when a man was driving his 2011 Lincoln up the Kenilworth Access and smelled something burning, police say. He pulled over and popped the hood to find where the smell was coming from — and that’s when a fire broke out.

He called 911, but the car was completely engulfed in flames by the time the fire department got there, police say. They doused the flames and towed the car from the scene.

City crews helped clear debris on the road. Police say the fire was deemed not suspicious.
