Police found a man lying in a pool of his own blood at his home in east Hamilton Wednesday morning.

Around 3 a.m., police responded to a 911 call from a home on Cannon Street East near Glendale Avenue North.

When police arrived and looked in a window, they saw a man lying on the kitchen floor, unconscious in a pool of blood.

Officers forced their way inside and the man was taken to hospital. His injuries are considered serious but non-life threatening, police say.

Police say the victim, a 58-year-old man, was assaulted elsewhere, made his way home, then collapsed.

The investigation is ongoing.
