A man who fell off a stolen e-bike was arrested Wednesday night near Gage Park, police say.

Officers were called about a collision at Carrick Avenue and Main Street East around 8:10 a.m., police say. When they got there they were told a man had fallen off his e-bike and was taken to hospital.

One of the officers noticed that the ignition on the bike had been tampered with, police say. E-bikes are sometimes altered to allow for higher speeds than intended.

Further investigation revealed that the bike had been stolen, police say.

A 28-year-old Hamilton man was charged with theft under $5,000, possession under $5,000 and possession of burglary tools. He was released on a promise to appear.
