A Hamilton man is charged with extortion, child pornography and child luring after an investigation by the Hamilton Police Service Internet Child Exploitation Unit.

The FBI told police that the man was posing as a young female and using social media to befriend boys and young men in the United Kingdom, the U.S. and Canada, Hamilton Police say. Some of the boys took their clothes off on a webcam.

The man recorded the images and video and threatened to post them unless the boys provided more pornographic material, police say.

Sometimes the victims complied. In others, the victim's photos were shared with friends and relatives.

Police seized computer equipment from a Mountain address on April 25.

The investigation is continuing in Canada, the U.S. and the U.K.

Robert Ellis, 21, is charged with two counts of extortion, possession of child pornography, two counts of luring, two counts of making child pornography and making child pornography available.

Police say further charges are pending.
