A man trying to rob a jewelry store in downtown Hamilton on Wednesday walked away with nothing after a cashier simply ignored him.
Around 4:15 p.m., a man entered a jewelry store in Jackson Square and demanded cash and jewelry from the woman standing behind the register, police say.
When the woman didn't react to the man's demands, he gave up and left empty-handed.
There were no weapons seen and no one was injured, police say.
The suspect had fled by the time officers arrived at the store. But around 1 a.m. Thursday morning, police were called about a disturbance at a coffee shop in the area of Bay Street North and Cannon Street, and officers recognized one of the men involved as a suspect from the jewelry store.
A 28-year-old man was arrested and charged with robbery and three counts of breach of probation. He was held for a bail hearing.
